Colour-code your collections for faster navigation

Colour-code your collections for faster navigation

When you manage dozens of collections, activities, and workflow stages, they can start to blur together. Scanning a sidebar full of identical-looking icons makes it harder to find what you need at a glance.

What's new:

Kinabase now features a combined icon and colour picker that lets you assign both an icon and a colour to your collections, activity types, and form buttons in a single control. Choose from nine vibrant colours and hundreds of icons, and your selections appear as coloured badges throughout the sidebar navigation, making every item visually distinct and easy to spot.

Why it matters:

  • Find collections faster by scanning colour-coded icons in the sidebar instead of reading every label.
  • Stay organised at scale as your workspace grows, with distinct visual identities for each collection and activity type.
  • Set up in fewer clicks using one combined picker instead of switching between separate icon and colour controls.

How it works:

  1. Navigate to the collection you want to customise, then open Configure and select the Details tab.
  2. Click the icon button next to the collection name to open the combined picker.
  3. Browse or search the icon grid. Icons are automatically sorted by relevance to your collection name, so the best matches appear first.
  4. Select a colour from the row of dots below the icon grid. Choose from red, orange, yellow, green, teal, cyan, blue, purple, or pink. Select Default to remove the colour.
  5. Click outside the picker to close it, then save your changes. Your collection will now display its coloured icon badge in the sidebar.

You can also assign icons and colours when creating a new collection in the collection setup popup, when configuring activity types under the Activities settings tab, and when setting up form buttons in the Forms settings tab.

When to use it:

  • Operations managers can colour-code collections by department so their team navigates the sidebar visually without hesitation.
  • Sales teams can assign distinct colours to pipeline stages and activity types, making it immediately obvious which collection or activity they are working with during a busy day.
  • Marketing teams can colour-code collections for campaigns, assets, and briefs, and apply matching colours to form buttons so contributors instantly know where their submissions are going.

Get started

Open any collection's Configure page and click the icon next to the collection name to try the new combined picker.
