Connect SQL data sources
Connect Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL databases to Kinabase
Data Sources let you connect Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL databases to Kinabase, so the information your team relies on can live alongside everything else instead of being scattered across separate tools and manual copies.
Connection details are encrypted, only used to read data, and protected with encrypted transport and certificate checks - so you can bring your databases together without compromising on security.
What you can do with data sources
Connect Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL databases from a single Data Sources area in Settings.
Connection details are encrypted, only used to read data, and protected with encrypted transport and certificate validation.
Use the built-in connection test to confirm a source is reachable before you save it.
Each connection shows a clear status badge, so you always know whether it is active.
Before you start
Data sources are enabled per workspace. If you don't see Data Sources in Settings, ask your Kinabase account manager to switch it on for your workspace.
You will also need to sign in as an administrator, and have a connection string ready that uses a read-only user.
1. Open the Data Sources area
- Click on your name in the bottom-left corner of Kinabase and select Settings.
- Open the Integrations section.
- Select Data Sources.
Here you'll see any data sources that are already connected, along with their provider and current status.
2. Add a data source
- Select Add data source.
- Choose your provider - Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL.
- Enter a Display name to help you recognise the connection later, such as "Reporting warehouse".
- Paste your Connection string, including the database/catalog, a read-only user and encrypted transport. Custom ports are supported. Public endpoints must use a certificate that Kinabase can validate against the connection host.
Connection details are encrypted and only used to read data.
3. Test the connection
Before saving, select Test connection to check that the database is reachable with the details you've entered. Kinabase will let you know whether the connection test passed, or show an error if it could not connect.
Once you're happy, save the data source. New connections appear in the Data Sources list straight away.
Connection status
Each data source shows a status badge so you can see its state at a glance:
The data source is active and reachable.
The last connection attempt failed. Open the data source to see the error and check the connection details.
The data source has been switched off and is not currently in use.
The saved connection string has been removed. Reconnect the source to use it again, or delete it.
Edit, disconnect or delete a data source
You stay in full control of every connection:
- Edit a data source to change its display name or update its connection string.
- Disconnect a data source to stop Kinabase using it. The saved connection string is removed, and the source moves to a Disconnected status until you reconnect it.
- Delete a data source to remove it from the list entirely. You need to disconnect a source first before you can delete it.
Connecting your SQL databases brings trusted figures into Kinabase securely - so your team can work from one place, with encrypted credentials and full control over every connection.
