Bubble Chart

Visualise records as interactive bubbles grouped by category

The Bubble Chart tool displays records

as interactive bubbles on a canvas. Each bubble represents a record, and you can control how bubbles are grouped, coloured, and sized based on your data.

What is a Bubble Chart?

A Bubble Chart provides a visual overview of your collection

data, where each record becomes a draggable bubble. Bubbles are automatically arranged into groups, making it easy to spot patterns and compare data across categories.

Why Use Bubble Charts?

  • See the big picture: Understand how records are distributed across categories
  • Spot outliers: Large or isolated bubbles stand out, helping you identify exceptions
  • Compare groups: Quickly see which categories have more records or higher values
  • Interactive exploration: Drag bubbles and hover for details without switching views

Using the Bubble Chart

1. Open the Bubble Chart

From your collection, click the bubble chart icon in the toolbar to open the Bubble Chart in the side pane.

2. Configure the Display

Use the toolbar dropdowns to control how bubbles are displayed:

Group

Select a categorical field to group bubbles. Records with the same value will cluster together horizontally. Groups are labelled on the left side of the chart.

  • Off: All records appear in a single group labelled "All Collection Name"
  • Available fields: Stage fields, Boolean fields, Option fields, Record fields

Colour

Apply a secondary visual dimension by colouring bubbles based on a field:

  • Off: Bubbles use their group's colour
  • Available fields: Option fields, Stage fields, Boolean fields, Record fields

Size

Control the size of each bubble based on a numeric field:

  • Off: All bubbles display at the same size
  • Available fields: Number fields, Probability fields, Rating fields

3. Interact with Bubbles

  • Hover over a bubble to see a tooltip with record details
  • Click a bubble to open the record's detail pane
  • Drag bubbles to rearrange them on the canvas

4. View Statistics

Each group displays statistics on the right side:

  • Count: Number of records in the group
  • Sum: Total of the Size field values (when applicable)
  • Avg: Average of the Size field values

Supported Field Types

Grouping and Colour Fields

  • Option fields: Single-select dropdown options
  • Stage fields: Workflow stages
  • Boolean fields: Yes/No or True/False values
  • Record fields: Linked records from other collections

Size Fields (Numeric)

  • Number fields: Any numeric value
  • Probability fields: Percentage values
  • Rating fields: Star ratings or numeric scores

Example Uses

Creative ways to use Bubble Charts

  • Sales pipeline: Group deals by stage, size by value, colour by probability
  • Project portfolio: Group projects by status, size by budget, colour by priority
  • Asset management: Group equipment by type, size by value, colour by condition
  • Team workload: Group tasks by assignee, size by estimated hours, colour by priority

Download Options

Export your Bubble Chart for presentations or reports:

  1. Click the Download dropdown in the toolbar
  2. Choose your format:
    • as SVG: Vector format, ideal for editing or high-quality print
    • as PNG: Raster format, suitable for presentations and documents

Tips

  • Filters apply: The Bubble Chart respects your current view filters, so you can visualise subsets of your data
  • Record limit: For optimal performance, the Bubble Chart works best with up to 500 records
  • Bubble scaling: Bubble sizes automatically adjust based on the number of records displayed
  • Group ordering: Groups appear in the order defined by your field options (e.g., workflow stage order)

Enabling the Bubble Chart

If you don't see the Bubble Chart icon in your toolbar:

  1. Open Collection Configuration (click Configure)
  2. Navigate to FeaturesTools
  3. Toggle on Bubble Chart

The Bubble Chart requires your collection to have at least one categorical field (Option, Stage, Boolean, or Record) or one numeric field.
